Film Project Research- Drive

The opening of the film Drive by Nicolas Winding Refn, is mainly the opening credits. There is little story revealed; however, from the choice of song and the lighting used, it can be inferred that the character shown is tired and a little stressed. An eye-line match is used along with close ups, establishing shot, over-the-shoulder shot, and a few aerial shots. The second shot used a low angle and it can be inferred that the camera was rigged to the car the character was driving. The character wears driving gloves, a driving jacket, and bites frequently on a toothpick. This shows that the character is a driver and he drives for a long time and needs to pass time by chewing on the toothpick. The budget of the film was 16 million dollars, and it made 78.1 million dollars. The jobs featured were the casting agency, the set designers, the costume designers, the producers, the writer, the director, and the actors. The film was nominated for an Oscar in sound editing, a Golden Globe nominee for supporting actor, and best director at the Cannes Film Festival.
