Distribution of John Wick Chapter 2

Image
John Wick Chapter 2 in 2017 had a simple distribution model. It released in January 30, 2017 receiving a total worldwide Box Office of $171,529,184. The film was then released for Blu-Ray and DVD on June 14, 2017. The total estimated domestic DVD and Blu-Ray sales are at the moment $30,127,681. The release date for streaming on May 23, 201. The film was streaming before it could be bought on DVD and Blu-Ray. This trend of releasing digital copies first gained popularity in 2012 by Twentieth Century Fox. Our group would like to utilize this strategy of releasing the film digitally a month or two before releasing it physically. Considering how only the physical copies roughly made 18% of the total worldwide Box Office revenue, we would like to follow through with a similar plan.

Traditional Distribution Model

Our film would follow a traditional distribution model. A film can either follow the traditional model which sends films to wholesalers and then to retailers. A direct model would go around wholesalers and go straight to retailers. This effort retains the rights for DVD, VOD, etc.; however, this requires a huge pile of capital. Producers are in favor of direct distribution because they make more money off of it, but this model can be very laborious. Bong Joon-Ho experimented with the direct model by releasing his film Snowpiercer simultaneously on the release date. In 2012, Twentieth Century Fox developed a plan to release movies digitally before DVD and Blu-Ray. With the money we could spend on direct distribution, could be spent on a stronger marketing campaign and getting more people to want to watch it. AMC and Cineplex are lenient on having films in theaters for less than the traditional 90 days, and more than 17 days. This way if our film is unsuccessful we can pull it from t...

Distribution of The Accountant

Image
Warner Bros. distributed The Accountant in 2016. The film was released in theaters October 14, 2016. The film released for DVD and Blu-Ray in January 10, 2017. The Accountant is on various VOD platforms such as YouTube, Amazon Video, Vudu, Google Play, and iTunes. The film made $153,060,045 in the Worldwide Box Office, and $18,493,138 in total estimated domestic video sales. The Accountant clearly made more money in theaters than for DVD and Blu-Ray. The film could have made more revenue if they released it for DVD and Blu-Ray sooner, which is something we plan to do.

Project Revision Three

Image
We changed all of the opening credits text. We added better animations and transitions to the text. For example, we changed the text on screen to the color of the poker chips on screen. We also added opaque and positional text animations to captivate the audience while watching. We moved the title to the end over the car driving away on screen.

Super Bowl Commercials

As a group we watched Super Bowl commercials to study their techniques. The first one we watched was the NFL Super Bowl LII commercial. It included a reference to the movie Dirty Dancing to bring in an audience of an older age. It also included younger football stars, to reel in a younger age too. The commercial did a good job including a broad age range. The commercial also attracted both genders through comedy. An M&M's advertisement used an old, but relevant actor, Danny DeVito to attract a more mature age range while also using physical comedy to attract a younger range. A Mountain Dew and Doritos commercial depicted a rap battle between Peter Dinklage and Morgan Freeman. The culture of rap attracts a young audience and the two actors themselves, attract a slightly older audience. The actors "rapped" directly towards the camera unlike the other ads. In our group we would plan to use the method of having our actors speak towards the camera introducing the film and ...
